  1. This animation is a gothic animation because the characters is crazy and psychopath because he killed a people, he is alone and he have hallucination. The characters (Vincent) make a experience in your dog for create a zombie. The song of this animation is very horrible and very shrill. The setting of this animation is a home. The voice off is aggressive. The ambiance of this animation is very strange and this ambiance we provides chills, they are a lightning. This animation is gothic because the animation end badly. For me is a good animation beacause I love a gothic story, the animation represent good the gothic, there is lot of element which represents a gothic story.

  2. I think this animation is a Gothic story because there are a lot of elements characterized the gothic genre.
In fact, the characters in this animation are odds because of their behaviour and their personality.
The colours are dark, as seen previously on the images.
Then, the main character, Vincent, likes reading the Edgar Allan Poe's books, a gothic author.
Vincent is little psychopath because he wants to transform his dog in zombie and his aunt in a wax doll.
This animation is hence a gothic story because of the setting, the characters, the ambiance...
According to my point of view, this animation is well realized despite the length of this animation. The story is quite good and interesting.

  4. It's animation is gothic, because from the beginning to the end there are gothic elements, like the black cat, the death of Vincent and the last sentence he said "never more" in a strange way.
There is no colours. The picture is shadow. The music is adapted with ambience he produce anxixety.
I find nice that Tim Burton crate a particular staging about a personnage, I fell his a schizophrenic, he has several personalities, and he is a psychopath with these strange experiences who inspired by Edgar Allan Poe. So at the end he died by his madness.
For my point of view it's difficult of don't find this animation a good gotthic story, because the realisator is Tim Burton, it's a big realisator, and I like him! I like his type of graph. He's cool. :)

  5. This short animated film reflects Gothic literature for many reasons : the characters are weird: the black cat who is supposed "to bring bad luck" and one of the humans characters is scary: Vincent, a kid, is a kind of scientist but he is more like a psychopath: he like to killed people and does experiments on animals. This short film is in black and white and is part of the gothic literature: the effects on the viewer are the horror and the fear, the music is also scary.
This animated movie makes me think of Frankenstein, I appreciate the films of the 80s and even more seeing the director: Tim Burton who made great movies. This short film is interesting, dark with an extraordinary and overflowing imagination! :)

  6. I think this short animation contains many characteristics of Ghotic. Indeed, in the beginning we can see a black cat which, usually, brings bad luck and this animation is in black and white. Furthermore, Vincent is a psychopath because he perform experiments on the animals to become zombies. And his wants to do a wax doll whith his aunt. His favorite author is Edgar Allan Poe so for me we are in a Gothic fiction verry interesting. I usually like the movies of Tim Burton and I like this short animation too.

  7. In this short animation, we observe a lot of gothic characteristics such as ; the black cat in the beginning who normally brings bad luck, furthermore we see Vincent the main character as someone who's different from the other kids, he does strange experiences on his family instead of playing and "...while other kids read books like "Go Jane Go", Vincent's favourite author is Edgar Allan Poe"; this author mainly wrote gothic fiction, he's mature for his age (7) to read that genre.
Secondly, the characters he transforms himself into are taking part of the gothic characteristics, for instance : the evil aristocrat, the mad scientist/man. Then there are some mentions of : corpses, ghosts, dead bride, skeletons, zombies, a skull
To conclude, the atmosphere is dark, there is sometimes a fog inside the big house which is big and reminds us of a labyrinth.
Tim Burton and the people who worked on this succeeded in making the atmosphere strange, and captivating us with his dark art with a great narrator along with the soundtrack, I enjoyed it and was not bored a single second throughout those 5 minutes.

  8. In my opinion, this short story reflects the Gothic because all the story is in black and white there is no colors. We can see a lot of characters of Gothic like Vincent who seems like a psychopath because he mades strange experience to his dog, it becomes a zombie, and he wants to transform his aunt in a wax doll. His favorite author is Edgar Allan Poe, he is a gothic author. The ambiance is very scary and strange and the music too. The little boy lives in a big house which is very darkness, he is alone. The story makes me fear but a like it.

  9. This short film is a great exemple of Gothic art. This is in black and white. It is settled in a big house. We can find in it the main character turning into a mad scientist when he makes experiments on his dog, wanting him to become a "zombie dog". There is the presence of a tomb, a corpse, skeletons as well. The overall atmoshpere of it is anxiety, horror and terror. His favorite author is Edgar Allan Poe, who is a major figure of Gothic literature. The part where he is locked up his his "tower of doom" and begins having hallucinations of the room "swell(ing)", "shiver(ing)" and "creak(ing)" and skeleton hands coming out from the wall reminnded me of the weird feelings expressed in this particular chapter of The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde where the character swallows a potion and starts feelings amazing.
It made me feel horror when Vincent imagines dipping his aunt in wax for a was museum.
I really enjoyed this short film. I already liked Tim Burton and I love him even more after that. I really like this kind of dark atmospher and the fact that the little boy imagines having a dead wife.

  10. First of all it’s normal which this short film have the characteristics of gothic because it’s made by the most weird filmmaker that I have never seen. No offence of course, this man is just a genius with his films more delirious one than others. Anyway, what I was trying to say is that short film is a gothic story so of course a gothic literature. In fact as soon as the video start we hear the wind and waves for finish with a bird who humming a melody. At first sight we can imagine that the story will be like a Disney but we are warning by the black cat that represent the bad side and the misfortune. Also the settings remind us gothics effects, like the fact that the story are in black and white or the room at the beginning which is empty. When the voice starts to speak we heard a very friendly voice, which present us the main character, Vincent. The tone changes when we say that Vincent wanted to be like Vincent Price. The character change too and he turns into an old man which frightens the cat. In the house of his dream he could do what we would, like transform his dog in a zombie and his aunt in a wax doll. However, we like to paint and read but read books of Edgar Allan Poe who is an author of gothic literature. He believed that is wife was buried alive but we were insane. His mother said to him that he imagine all of what he saw like corpses, monsters, ghost, skeletons which trying to get him. For him, the house possessed him, which was no really a house, more a laboratories or a dark castle. Vincent sank into the madness, the monsters that he saw created fears, horror and terror in is mind. At the end we died by quoting “the raven” of Edgar Allan Poe. This short film is really strange, this provokes emotional effects on the viewer like horror or discomfort. But I like it. I think Tim Burton just wanted to engage viewers interest.

    1. Honestly this extract makes me ill at ease... but I really like Tim Burton because I think he is the best producer of gothic movies. This extract remember me of the movie "The corpse bride" by Tim Burton too.
The sort extract of Vincent is the perfect exemple of gothic movies. First, at the beginning we saw a black cat who is the symbol of the misfortune, also the wrighting were totally dark and gothic. All the extract is in black and white. The caracters got dark airs, big dark eyes and they never smile expect a sadistic smile. Here the little boy, Vincent is also dreaming of beeing the bad and makes horrible experience on his family members: his dog like a zombie, put her mom in acid... He also read the book of Edgar Allan Poe so he started to imagine that is wife was buried alive, he became completely insane. His mother punished him to stay in his room but she tried to explain to him that he is a young boy of 7 years old and he just got many imagination and that he must start to play outside "fun" game. But for him it was imposible because his mind created so much monsters that it's like they become alive and they tried to killed him like he was possessed.
This extract create a feeling of discomfort and madness

  12. this animation belongs to the gothic art because it’s in black and white, the characters are distorted and its referred to a scary movie with the grave and the little boy who is not afraid about this, and his mother gives him a very big punishment and i was almost affected about this whereas Vincent is a bad boy and a psychopath : refferred to the gothic fiction because of his experience to his cat and the end is terrified because he see zombies and for one time, this is him who is afraid so I think that it’s a good end

  14. This short film is very weird but it was made by one of my favorite movie maker. This movie represents gothic because of a very dark ambiance and a stressful music. Vincent is a mad scientist trying to change his dog into a zombie. The scene takes place in a very big house (Reference to Gothic). The characters are disproportionate,Vncent has a very large chin, the women are very fat and the dog is weird.
This movie scared me, it was a strange ambiance that I dislike a lot, but Tim Burton always does a very good job.

  15. this video makes me feel uncomfortable yet it gives me the desire to watch it to the end! the black and white gives a sober effect that forces us to look at the main person, and to listen attentively to the voiceover which in passing is quite impressive. This video can be considering like ghotic art.

  16. This short animation is a good example of the Gothic literature and to be honest I really like it. All the story is in black and white and the atmosphere is really dark and heavy. The main character, Vincent, lives in a big house, which is a reference to the gothic literature. During this animation Vincent, is represented as a mad scientist. He tries to change his dog into a zombie. This story is very strange, awkward and even a little scary, but it is Tim Burton’s style and I like that.

  18. It's a Gothic animation because we find differents elements of a Gothic fiction. The main character is kid, so we can think it's a nice child, but we discover it's a psychopath, he kill people. The setting is in a house, and in a laboratory, so the kid seems a scientist, a dangerous scientist. This story provokes many effects on the spectator, like the horror (with a young murderer), repugnance, fear ; this animation not developped a rational. The elements of the plot are the stress (the music is very horrible and gothic), an atmosphere of mystery, terrors, supernatural, superstitions (with the black cat in the beginning), the surnatural and strange. I like this animation because I appreciate Gothic fiction, and I like Tim Burton.

  20. From the beginning to the end of this short animated film the atmosphere is evolving and gets more and more odd and dark...
Vincent, the main character, wishes to live as Vincent Price who have a very close link with horror films. Vincent stays in his room and imagines living in a dark room with spiders, bats and horrific inventions, doing experiments with his dog... We see that he killed his aunt, who he's nice with...
Then he likes reading Edgar Allan Poe. Both Vincent Price and Edgar Allan Poe are a link to the horror universe...
I don't really like this animated film, because of the atmosphere provoked by the absence of colors and deformed characters, I didn't felt attracted by it.

  21. So, I extremely felt ill at ease during this video. To start with, the fact that it is a Tim Burton's animation, an artist whom I have never estimated because of his unhealthy, dark side and of his at least terrible characters. I hate this macabre and very black atmosphere which continues throughout this video. Furthermore, even the story is more than twisted. A seven-year-old child named Vincent, is convinced to be Vincent Price, an American actor who played in horror movies. The child imagines to be a completely crazy scientist, in search of experiment,in his labotory very dark fills with bats, with spiders and with mutants whom he made. He imagines to kill his kind aunt by flooding her in a boiling chauldron, he imagines to kill his dog by electrocution...But let us can understand a little better the origin of his madness, when we learn that he loves reading Edgar Alan Poe's books, who are a very famous writter of horror story. To finish, the basence of color displeased me enormously just like the story which is just improbable, and which has for only purpose to give us the goose bumps !

    Mathis.
